Gary Lee Conley
Gary Lee Conley, 30, R. 18, Bedford, died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday at VA Hospital in Indianapolis.
He had been ill for four years
He was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1965. From 1966-1968, he served in the U.S. Army and was in Viet Nam. Following discharge, he became a self-employed remodeling contractor. On June 19, 1973, he suffered a spinal injury when he dived into water at Half Moon Beach west of Mitchell. The injury left him a quadriplegic.
He was born in Bedford Feb. 2, 1947, son of Leon R. and Mary Evaline Sowder Conley. In July, 1966, he married Deborah Williamson.
Surviving are the parents; one son, Garry M. and one daughter, Melissa Gayle, both of St. Paul, Minn.;one brother Larry Kenneth Sowder, DeKalb, Ill; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Patricia) McDowell, Brownsburg; and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Meda Conley, Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Reverend Richard Kern officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon, Saturday.
